WE GOT A GRANT! CalMHSA and Los Angeles Department of Mental Health awarded us with a grant and we developed a workshop that shows how music and movement are viable tools to help with, or help prevent, depression in elders and the people who work with them. The workshops were presented at two adult day care facilities in Los Angeles. Homerun Entertainment, an award winning television production company, shot and edited the events. Together we created an informational 10-minute video available to the general public to stream.
HERE IT IS!...
NEWS We were invited to present to the 9th International Positive Aging Conference! An introduction to the program was backed up with scientific evidence for each component of the class. The results of our initial study was shared. We are so excited to share Joyful Boogie with others in this field, and connect with people dedicated to creating innovative programs for older adults.
A preliminary month-long study generated far more impressive results than anticipated:
Balance:61% of participants increased their balance by an average of 70%. Mobility:75% of participants increased their mobility by an average of 30%. Flexibility:79% of participants increased their flexibility by an average of 56%. Arm Strength: 80% of participants increased their arm strength by an average of 45%. Leg Strength:75% of participants increased their leg strength by an average of 82%. Study parameters: (2 classes/week = 8 classes total) with 40 participating senior citizens at an Adult Day Care Center, age range 69-98, in Los Angeles, California.
We are also interested in partnering with institutions for additional studies in the Los Angeles, CA area. We are excited about the potential in this program!
OUR NEXT INTEREST: Conducting a psychological study on how the program affects depression and anxiety in seniors.
JOYFUL BOOGIE IS READY TO EXPAND! We are looking to partner with facilities or programs designed to help seniors feel empowered, expressive and live a purposeful life. Los Angeles, New York, or anywhere in between.
